It was supposed to be a simple extraction job. Waltz into this factory in Iron Heart, steal the plans for the Coalition's latest new idea, and bring 'em to Free Quebec. Then we could go home to Lazlo and wait until the next job. And somebody'd be hiring us. We're the best damn specialists in this business. As I said, easy job. So easy, in fact, that one of us could have done it. 'Cept my dad demanded the job for the three of us. Me, my brother Ker, and Dad. Dad wanted to see how the two of us would hold up on a real life job, and not just the training he'd put us through. Besides, it meant more money if Ker and I could do this sort of stuff on our own. Then we wouldn't be mooching off Dad. 'Sides, if Dad had gone the way of Mom...then Ker and I would be out of luck, plain and simple. Oh? Y'wanna know what happened to Mom? It's nothing much really, Mom was doing one of them rather dangerous jobs, even for the best in the business. And she got caught laying the bomb. But Mom wasn't no dummy. She grinned at the guards who had caught her and clicked the bomb relay open. Took out a whole city block. Luckily for the civvies, this was at 3 AM and there was nobody around, 'cept Mom and those guards. Dad was sad, but he was also really proud of Mom. But he did tell Ker and I that we should never find ourselves in that situation. The key is never to be too overconfident. But this is digression. Anyway, Dad had it all planned out. He got us all fake Coalition IDs and uniforms. To anybody in Iron Heart, I was Corporal Michelle Carter, assigned to Major Scott Wilson in his inspection trip of the Iron Heart factories. Of course, this was our ruse, anyway, to case the joint. Then, we'd enter the factory that night, get what we needed and be halfway to Free Quebec by morning. Ker played the part of Private David Martin. Of course, we easily got into Iron Heart, the Coalition firmly believed Dad was an inspector. I wish I could say that we had nothing to do with that, but...hell, we did. And learned the hard way again that overconfidence kills. Alright, I admit it. Dad was never much for the Coalition, calling them 'brutes' and 'less than human,' and Ker and I believed him. After all, Dad was our taskmaster, and playing with Coalition folks was never one of the things we did. 'Sides, we grew up in Lazlo, and well, y'know how those Lazlo folks feel about those Coalition folk.
